Microsoft Windows Vista and Office 2007
Availability
In May 2008 Windows Vista will replace Windows XP and Microsoft Office 2007 will replace Microsoft Office 2003 on all new computer purchases of a Windows UConn standard HuskyPC http://huskypc.uconn.edu.
Purchases of a standard HuskyPC between now and May 2008 will continue to ship with Windows XP operating system and Office 2003 installed. After May 2008, departments or individuals with a business need for Windows XP may request a custom quote from the Dell account team, based off of any of the available Preconfigured Dell E-Quotes or custom quotes generated from the Dell Premier Pages.
To download quotes or access the UConn Dell Premier site you will have to login with your NetID and password. The first time you access the Premier site you will be prompted to register using your UConn email address. This will be the login and password you use each time you access the site.
The newest versions of Windows (Vista) and Office 2007 look and function very differently than the previous versions. Staff and faculty should plan for this transition by attending online and/or in-person training to become familiar with new features and to fully understand the impacts or issues that each product may introduce.
Support, Education, and Training
It is recommended that UConn faculty and staff become familiar with Windows Vista and Office 2007 before May 2008 as each introduces a new interface and functionality. Training resources and important information about each of the products is provided below:
