Symantec Ghost? Solution Suite is the industry's most widely-used enterprise imaging and deployment solution with ease-of-use for managing the entire PC lifecycle including OS deployment, software distribution, PC migration and retirement. It reduces IT costs by streamlining networked desktop and laptop management in an enterprise environment.
Administrators can now choose to create and deploy entire operating systems, application packages, user "personalities," security "hot fixes" using either file- or sector-based imaging technology. Additionally a unique file preservation capability preserves the Client Staging Area's contents during a restore, thereby maintaining a local backup and recovery image for an original state recovery. With the Ghost Client installed, there's no need to visit the target PC in order to conduct routine deployment or maintenance. Ghost is available for installation on University owned computers. There must be a license associated with each PC.

Distribution
The software was purchased in support of academic labs. For the numbers distributed to the registered labs and/or more detail regarding Software SIG, visit http://software.uconn.edu.
To purchase the software, send an email to Software Purchases. Be sure to provide your name, address, email, and department/school affiliation. Include the number of copies desired.
Then bring a transfer voucher when you pick up the software at the University ITS Business Office located in the Math Science Building (MSB), ground floor, room 049. Call ahead to ensure the software and paperwork is ready for you. The site license administrator can be reached by calling 486-1781.

Special Needs
To register and use Ghost, perform these steps during installation:
- The username of the product must be Software License Group and the organization University of Connecticut
- The serial number must be entered. (Receive this upon purchase of the software)
- After installation, the Ghost Console program must be run. To do this, go to HELP then REGISTER CONSOLE.
A validation key (a 20 character code) will be given to you upon purchase of the software.
If you have difficulty registering the product, follow these exact steps:
- From within the Symantec Ghost Console program, go to HELP then GENERATE REGISTRATION FILE. Press CLEAR OUTSTANDING REQUEST button.
- Enter THIS email address software@uconn.edu and the serial number. Select OK.
- Go to HELP then REGISTER CONSOLE. Enter the validation key (a 20 character code).
